Manchester United star Fred has revealed what or more accurately who made him join the club, pointing to his agent Gilberto Silva.
The former Arsenal star represents the Brazilian who made the switch to Old Trafford this summer from Shakhtar Donetsk.
United made the midfielder their only major signing of the transfer window while they added depth in Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.
Fred has shown glimpses of his quality so far but it’s also been clear he still needs time to adjust.
Nonetheless fans are still excited to see him settle in as soon as possible so he can help the club achieve it’s targets for the season.
According to Manchester Evening News, Fred said to the club’s official website: “Gilberto was a top midfielder who played for Arsenal. But he has a lot of respect for Manchester United, who are obviously a big club here in England.
“He praised the club a lot and, after he was granted the opportunity to speak to Jose Mourinho and other senior figures at United, we made the decision together for me to come here. We decided it would be a good move for me.
“Gilberto is a top guy and his advice means a lot to me. He played in the same position as I do and he won the Premier League, so I look to him for inspiration, I listen to what he has to say and I take on board what he tells me.”
Fred is expected to be a part of the Red Devils’ best midfield which Jose Mourinho is pretty much building his team around.
Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are the other players who complete the trio of an engine room that can rival any top side club.
The Serbian is yet to feature alongside them due to his injury and so Andreas Pereira has been filling in so far.
Perhaps Matic’s return will see Manchester United’s defenders given more protection and so shock results like the one against Brighton won’t happen as often.
