Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur: Potential XI with Lingard and Rashford making starts

<—Article Start—>Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford on Monday night as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s astonishing 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Glenn Murray and Shane Duffy scored within two minutes of each other before the half-hour mark and Romelu Lukaku responded with a goal in his first start of the season, but Pascal Gross’ penalty made it 3-1 at half-time.

A shocking lack of urgency after the break saw Man United fail to get back into the game and Paul Pogba’s stoppage time spot-kick was solely a consolation, so Jose Mourinho will be demanding improvement and changes are expected.

One of the main talking points from the AMEX Stadium was the mistake-prone partnership of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly and it seems dead-set that at least one will lose there place with Chris Smalling, ever-present last term, waiting in the wings.

Despite an underwhelming midfield showing last time out it’s unlikely vast changes will be sanctioned due to Nemanja Matic’s availability. Marouane Fellaini is an option though, as is Scott McTominay, and it’ll be Andreas’ place in danger.

Jesse Lingard returned in United colours on Sunday but wasn’t on long enough to make an impact. He should start ahead of Juan Mata at Old Trafford to add pace to the attack, with Marcus Rashford set to regain his starting spot following Anthony Martial’s lacklustre outing.

Potential XI: De Gea; Young, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw; Andreas, Fred, Pogba; Lingard, Rashford, Lukaku.<—Article End—>
