Zinedine Zidane tells friends he “expects” to be offered Manchester United job – report

Zinedine Zidane has told friends he expects to be offered the Manchester United job once Jose Mourinho is sacked, according to reports.

The Frenchman left his post at Real Madrid in May after delivering three Champions League triumphs in as many years at the Bernabeu.

Pressure has intensified on Mourinho after one of the worst performances of his Man United reign against Brighton and Hove Albion last Sunday.

And according to the Daily Mail‘s Chris Wheeler, Zidane believes he will be offered the United job should Mourinho be relieved of his duties at Old Trafford in the near future.

Ed Woodward is by no means inclined to pull the trigger on Mourinho at this moment in time. It is, after all, probably worth noting that the boss did just lose one game, regardless of how bad that game was. Talk of Mourinho leaving is extremely premature.

But the chairman, who supporters plan to protest against with a plane banner next week, will be prepared to dispense with Mourinho should the club enter free-fall.

And that very much leaves the door open for Zizou, who would constitute a marked change of tone and style should he be entrusted with the managerial hot-seat at United. Whether he would haul United out of the perpetual merry-go-round of underachievement, however, remains to be seen.
