<—Article Start—>Chris Smalling has highlighted both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s strengths ahead of Monday’s clash at Old Trafford.
It’ll be Man United’s first ‘Big Six’ meeting of the 2018-19 season and an opportunity to bounce back from the shocking 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday.
Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof’s poor performances in that outing should see Smalling earn his first start of the campaign against Tottenham, and he’s spoken to MUTV ahead of match day.
On the quality of the match, the 28-year-old expressed: “I think both clubs have good players – the way we both play and the fact we each have players who can win games.
“Both teams can defend well too, so I think that’s why the games have tended to be close over the last few years,” he added.
Smalling was ever-present last term and a strong showing against Mauricio Pochettino’s dangerous attack should see him maintain his spot once again, it begs the question who he’ll replace though.
Man United have a good record against Spurs on home turf in recent years and will be confident of pulling another performance to be proud of out of the bag on the big occasion, and Smalling will hope to contribute.
