Journalist Neil Custis has revealed just how criticism of Jose Mourinho has been over the top, defending the Manchester United manager.
The Portuguese boss has been the talk of the media of late since his side were surprisingly beaten by Brighton last Sunday.
Mourinho’s decision to show up early to his pre-match press conference and end it within five minutes did not go down well with some newspapers.
Custis believes many are forgetting just how good the former Real Madrid man is and what he’s done at United so far.
The Sun writer is one of only a few people defending Jose as plenty others, even some fans, believe he should be moved on.
According to Sky Sports, Neil said: “He has made them relevant again. This is a top manager who is being picked apart and being called a dinosaur.
“He beat all of the top six last season, Spurs in the (FA Cup) semi-final, got to an FA Cup, which they probably should have won.
“The League Cup final when they beat Southampton was the best game I have seen at the new Wembley. The Europa League final against Ajax he got tactically spot on.
“And this bloke is getting pulled from pillar to post, it is ridiculous.”
This will certainly prove to be a defining season for Jose with many initially expecting him to win the title before the transfer window business happened.
Now those same fans think it’ll be practically impossible for the former Chelsea man to challenge and it would even be a job well done if Manchester United remain in the top four.
Mourinho’s in his third season in charge of the club and he’s normally a title winner by that time in his previous clubs but even the most optimistic fan doesn’t see it happening.
