Mario Mandzukic was convinced by manager Massimiliano Allegri to reject Manchester United and remain at Juventus this summer with guarantees of regular playing time despite the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports from Italy.
Jose Mourinho went into the summer keen on adding further physical presence to his attack and, according to Gianluca di Marzio, picked out Mandzukic as the ideal fit, with West Ham United’s Marco Arnautovic serving as an alternative option.
But no progress was made with the Croat, who went to the World Cup final with Croatia. Perhaps the decision of Marouane Fellaini to remain at Old Trafford no longer rendered it necessary to make a fully fledged bid for Mandzukic.
According to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, Allergri ensured he kept his striker amid interest from several clubs by reassuring him of playing time at Juventus this season following the arrival of Ronaldo.
