From Italy: Juventus plotting January move for Anthony Martial

by Leo Nieboer

Juventus are planning to make a bid for Anthony Martial in the January transfer window, according to reports from Italy.

Martial was tipped to leave Old Trafford earlier in the summer, with Juventus emerging as early favourites to sign the 22-year-old.

But the Frenchman has made a U-turn by recently entering talks with Manchester United over a new five-year contract.

Nevertheless, the Serie A champions, according to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, are determined to sign Martial in the January transfer window having abandoned their interest over the summer.

Juventus understandably focused their efforts on securing the services of Cristiano Ronaldo to bolster their attack this summer – along with signing Leonardo Bonucci and Joao Cancelo – and consequently never made progress in a deal for Martial.

And they may well have missed their chance. Martial considered leaving in the summer but has since changed his mind in the belief that Jose Mourinho will be dismissed sooner rather than later.

Presenting Ed Woodward, hellbent on keeping Martial, with an acceptable offer may prove a fruitless task.
