Roberto Martinez confirms Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has an injury worry

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that there is an injury worry around manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The 30-year-old as impressive for Man United against Burnley in the final Premier League game for the Reds before the September international break.

Fellaini was given a job to do shielding United’s defence, which has been vulnerable at the start of this season. He performed it excellently, dealing with any aerial balls and covering for Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling when necessary.

Having earned the plaudits for his performance in the 2-0 win, Fellaini went away on international duty with Belgium as the first ever UEFA Nations League gets underway for Belgium.

A number of Belgian newspapers are reporting that Fellaini is one of a number of players with injury scares.

Manager Roberto Martinez, formerly boss of Everton and Wigan Athletic in the Premier League, said, “there are some worries around Benteke’s knee, but we also watch Chadli, Mignolet and Fellaini.”

Quite what Fellaini’s injury or knock is has not been disclosed by Belgium or United. Jose Mourinho, though, will be concerned by the news given how much he trusts Fellaini.

The Belgian is not United’s most talented midfielder and is arguably holding the Reds back because they know they can always rely on bringing him on for a late aerial threat.

However, he has been trusted hugely by David Moyes, then Louis van Gaal and then Jose Mourinho. It’s no coincidence.

The reason is because Fellaini fulfils his duties perfectly if asked to complete a specific role in the team. He cannot do everything, and what he can do is not amazing, but managers trust him.

Unlike many others in United’s team who are inconsistent and often lack the determination required to turn games around, Fellaini has that. The only proof needed of that is how he has fought back from being a scapegoat under Moyes and van Gaal to become an important member of Mourinho’s squad and one appreciated by many United fans now.
