Andreas Pereira fulfilled his dream of playing for the Brazil senior side on Tuesday night and was naturally over the moon.
The attacking midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Valencia, dazzled for Manchester United in pre-season and against Leicester City on the opening day of the 2018/19 campaign.
He was handed a call-up to the Brazil squad last month and came on for the last 20 minutes during a 5-0 friendly win over Honduras in Washington.
Pereira took to Instagram after the game to express his sheer delight at achieving a childhood dream.
“Do you know that dream that does not stop pulsing with your heart? Well, this shirt… this shield is my dream every day. Thank you, my God, for this opportunity!”
To play for the Selecao, to wear that famous yellow and green (yes, I know he played in blue last night), is a milestone in itself.
Football is in Brazil’s DNA like no other country. Representing their national team, therefore, takes on a whole added significance.
He has achieved a genuine, bottom-of-the-heart dream. Regardless of what he does from now on, Pereira can look back at that moment and feel enormously proud.
