USA target Jose Mourinho for manager’s job amidst increasing pressure for Manchester United boss

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with the manager’s job for the United States of America.

Under pressure at Old Trafford, it’s the first job that Mourinho has been rumoured to be in consideration for. The Portuguese has guided Man United to their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

The Reds have lost three of their opening seven fixtures in the league. Only David Moyes’ 2013/14 side matched such a terrible start to a campaign.

Some fans have called for Mourinho to be sacked, while others remain loyal to the 55-year-old and keep singing his name at Old Trafford.

The successor to Louis van Gaal won two trophies in his first season at Manchester United but has since failed to deliver on what he was brought in to do. A title challenge was expected in his second, if not third, season. It is now clear that will not happen.

The USA are currently without a manager after Bruce Arena was sacked for failing to qualify for the summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Sports Illustrated report that Arena’s replacement could be Mourinho. The USA are holding off from offering the job to anyone in case Mourinho comes available in the near future.

Quite why Mourinho, a European manager who has only ever managed in European football and has no knowledge of the USA football scene, would be a good replacement for Arena is unknown. It stinks of a country trying to increase their reputation by bringing in Mourinho.
