Manchester United have reportedly submitted a bid for Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic in an effort to resolve their defensive woes.
Jose Mourinho’s men have looked far from solid this season which has contributed to their poor start in the Premier League.
United are already somehow seven points off top spot and are going to have to play catch-up to save their campaign.
Mourinho watched Milenkovic during Serbia’s recent international fixture and was so impressed he asked the board to make a move right away.
Those that know of the defender have made quite the comparison by likening him to former Manchester United star Nemanja Vidic.
According to Metro, La Nazione report that the Red Devils made a €60m offer for Nikola after Jose was so impressed with him but Fiorentina rejected the bid.
The Portuguese manager has been chasing defensive reinforcements since the last summer and it appears that trend will continue this winter.
The Manchester United owners are unlikely going to be willing to part with more money than the initial bid especially given how they already invested in young centre-backs before such as Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.
The January transfer market is a notoriously difficult one to navigate but if Mourinho can get the right signings in it could reinvigorate their season.
