Jose Mourinho wants new contracts for Ander Herrera and Juan Mata: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly wants the board to hand new contracts to Ander Herrera and Juan Mata.

The former Valencia man has been expected to leave Old Trafford since the moment the Portuguese boss arrived but nothing has ever really materialised.

With both players’ contracts running out next summer, many expected Mata to be let go by Mourinho once again having sold him during their time together at Chelsea.

However, it appears the former Real Madrid manager values him and Herrera more than most anticipated if recent reports are to be believed.

The duo are largely considered to be fringe players at the moment as they have struggled to start games consistently this season.

According to Stretty News, the Standard report that Jose has demanded new contracts to be handed to Ander and Juan because of their status in the dressing room and their positive attitudes.

The ‘Special One’ did state. earlier this season that he values this players due to what they bring to the club off the pitch and the report seems to reiterate that.

However, Herrera would have to commit to playing as a back-up player to the likes of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Fred while Mata has to deal with fighting for his place with Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez.
