Michael Carrick reveals how Sir Alex Ferguson told Manchester United players of his retirement

Michael Carrick has revealed the emotional way in which Sir Alex Ferguson told his Manchester United players that he was about to retire.

The former-midfielder is now on Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff at Man United. With a new book out, the insights into a superb career in which he won every club trophy possible as a United players are being revealed.

Carrick was an experienced and key player when Sir Alex Ferguson called it a day back in 2013 just after he had led United to their 20th league title.

In his book, he explains how Ferguson delivered the news to his players after rumours that he was going to retire were leaked into the press near the end of the season.

You can imagine how emotional Ferguson must have been and how gutted the players must have been to have to say goodbye to the greatest manager that football has ever seen.

His presence was dominant and so long-lasting that no one could imagine his tenure at United ever ending. That was true for fans, and almost certainly for the players, too.
