Jose Mourinho lost his cool after Chelsea’s celebrated purposefully right in front of him after Ross Barkley’s late equaliser against Manchester United.
The 55-year-old stated before the game that he would not go crazy if his team scored or won, and kept to his word for both Anthony Martial goals in the second half.
But when Barkley scored and Chelsea’s staff celebrated in a deliberately provocative way in front of Mourinho, the Portuguese lost his cool, bursting out of his seat and confronting the Chelsea bench.
Here is the video of Mourinho taking exception to some unacceptable behaviour from Maurizio Sarri’s backroom staff. The Italian told Mourinho afterwards that he would address the situation internally.
Mourinho attacked in more ways than one against Chelsea. Forget the result and United’s place in the table: to see the manager lay on a second half display of such ambition and personality, both on the pitch and in the dugout, was the most pleasing thing about this game.
The players are still fighting for Mourinho and each other. And Mourinho still has plenty of fire in his belly. He certainly still knows how to navigate these games.
Despite the late equaliser and late fracas, Mourinho will be under far less pressure going into an important week.
