Jose Mourinho to launch internal investigation after starting XI was leaked against Chelsea

Jose Mourinho will launch an internal investigation into how Manchester United’s starting XI was leaked on the morning of his side’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea, according to reports.

The 55-year-old woke up on Saturday morning to see that Man United’s team had been accurately posted on social media more than three hours before kick off. This was not the first time either: United’s team was leaked prior to their 3-1 defeat to West Ham United last month.

United struggled in the first half at Stamford Bridge, unable to match the speed of Chelsea’s passing, but mounted a superb resurgence in the second period to take a 2-1 lead through two Anthony Martial goals, only for Ross Barkley to score a late equaliser.

According to the Mail‘s Simon Jones, Mourinho will personally investigate how the team news – which would have only been disclosed to players and staff – managed to become public on the morning of the game.

Mourinho was especially angry at how Maurizio Sarri would have known that Juan Mata was starting. The Spaniard’s deployment as a No.10, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic behind him, provided a strong hint towards how United were setting up. Sarri’s decision to include the more balanced Mateo Kovacic instead of Barkley may well have been elicited in response to the leak.
