Max Allegri explains who Juventus targeted as weak link in win against Manchester United

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has revealed that his side targeted Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic in their win against the Reds on Tuesday night.

The Serbian was seen as a weakness in the Man United team, according to Allegri.

Matic was kept busy all night as he tried to shield the United back four against Juventus’ lethal attacking force.

It’s telling that the central midfielder was seen as the man to target by Juventus.

“It was important against Manchester United to keep the ball to ground and attack around Nemanja Matic,” Allegri said, according to Football Italia, not dicing his words.

“We still make too many mistakes on the final ball, as we had so many more chances and half-chances that we didn’t develop properly. A couple of times it was the player with the ball, another couple it was the player who didn’t peel away from his marker to reach the space.”

Juventus are an immense side with quality throughout. United are not.

Matic, for example, was a good signing. But he shouldn’t have ever been seen as a long-term starter in midfield for United.

There are players better at the things Matic is good at, and the things he’s not so good at leaves United missing key parts of their game.
