Anthony Martial has earned a recall to the France squad for internationals against the Netherlands and Uruguay in light of his superb form at Manchester United, according to reports from France.
The 22-year-old received a call-up to Didier Deschamps’ side early on last season but his diminished form following Alexis Sanchez’s January arrival precluded him from receiving a place in France’s victorious World Cup squad.
But he has been sensational throughout October, scoring five goals in as many games ahead of producing an excellent display out wide during the 2-1 win over Juventus in Turin on Wednesday.
And according to French media outlet L’Equipe, Martial is in line to receive a recall to the France side once again.
There was a point against Juventus when, after switching to a back three and placing Juan Cuadrado in the right wing back role, Martial suddenly started to make life hell for the Italian champions. He had performed well beforehand but Juventus, on the whole, had contained him.
Eventually, though, his raw talent – an ability to beat opponents at will – came to the fore. And that, more than anything, is why Martial is never too far away from the France team. Deschamps knows that at the very core of the Frenchman’s game is something worth harnessing as a weapon.
Mourinho has too often failed to do that. Ever since his goal against Young Boys, however, Martial has played with a higher tempo and it has brought out the very best of his game. A recall to the international stage is a no-brainer.
