Manchester United vs Crystal Palace: Potential XI without Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial

by Leo Nieboer

Jose Mourinho faces something of a selection headache for Manchester United’s clash with Crystal Palace this weekend.

Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial, alongside the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Marcus Rashford, are all injury doubts for the game.

Mourinho will not have been pleased to once again see so many players return from international duty carrying injuries.

With that in mind, here is how he could line up for Palace with the options available.

Pogba is expected to make a return but Mourinho, wary of the onslaught of fixtures looming in the distance, may use this game against Palace to give Fred increased responsibility in this team.

He has looked somewhere in between a nimble forward-thinking midfielder and a cagey disruptive influence in the middle. His role in this team is still unclear.

Perhaps a clear attacking role, where he plays almost as an impromptu No.10 coming from midfield, would extract the best out of him.

Further back, Andreas Pereira, who will be chomping at the bit for a rare start, ought to come into the side in place of the out-of-form Nemanja Matic, who has sustained an injury this months and looks in desperate need of a rest.
