Jose Mourinho: Romelu Lukaku didn’t play badly vs Liverpool

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed Romelu Lukaku didn’t play poorly in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

The Belgian international was the scapegoat once again for the majority of fans as he failed to be of any attacking threat against the opposition.

United played quite defensively and relied on long balls forward but unfortunately Lukaku couldn’t hold up the ball as he was well marshalled by Virgil van Dijk.

The striker couldn’t effectively use his obvious strength and height to his side’s advantage, meaning most of their attacks fell apart quickly.

Mourinho though has insisted he didn’t see anything wrong with the way Romelu played and instead lamented his squad’s susceptibly to injuries.

The former Everton man has been criticised for much of this season as he struggles to build on his impressive campaign last year.

However, Lukaku has been scoring for fun for his country so it’s left many supporters pointing a finger at Jose’s tactics as the reason.

The powerful forward has been starved of service for much of this season so the goals has been shared around the squad instead of relying heavily on him as Manchester United did previously.

Some of Romelu’s struggles have been attributed to his size as well as he’s clearly put on far too much muscle on and is unable to deal with the pace of the league this time around.
