Manchester United could launch €100m January bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly – report

Manchester United ‘dream’ of bringing Napoli and Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly and could even lodge a €100m bid for him this month, according to reports.

The club made efforts to land a central defender over the summer transfer window but failed to strike a consensus with Jose Mourinho over which exact player to sign.

Napoli are against the idea of sanctioning a January move for Koulibaly, who has emerged as one of the best defenders in world football over the past year.

Man United, amid uncertainty over the club’s next manager, are planning for a quiet transfer window this month but, according to Sport Witness, would be willing to make an ‘exception’ for Koulibaly.

This season has served to cement the notion that United require reinforcements in central defence. Beyond Victor Lindelof, there is little reliability among the club’s other defensive options – either because of fluctuations in form or fitness.

That is why Ed Woodward, if he believes the chance is there, will break the bank pursuing Koulibaly, whose value goes north of £100m.

Nobody at Napoli wants to let go of their star defender but recent racist chants towards the Senegalese, coupled with Italian’s football’s failure to properly address the incident, may lay the platform for Koulibaly opting to look elsewhere.
