Manchester United vs Brighton and Hove Albion: Potential XI with Eric Bailly

by Leo Nieboer

Eric Bailly returns from his three-game suspension following a seriously unnecessary red card sustained against AFC Bournemouth.

It should not be forgotten that, prior to his moment of madness, Bailly had defended superbly alongside the ever-blossoming Victor Lindelof.

And following what was, at times, a worryingly chaotic performance from Phil Jones against Tottenham Hotspur, perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskaer ought to see how the Ivorian fits in alongside Lindelof.

With that in mind, here is how Man United can line up against Brighton on Saturday with Bailly returning.

The rise of Lindelof has gone somewhat ignored amid United’s newfound attacking fervour under Solskjaer.

His performances are not just solid defensively; they are elegant. And he needs a partner with whom his abilities on the ball can be complimented.

This is why the industriousness and composure of Kalidou Koulibaly is United’s primary object of interest ahead of the summer. For now, though, Solskjaer needs to find a partner for him and Bailly, for some time, has been the one mooted by the club’s support as the club’s next best defender on a technical level.

You just hope that Bailly, who is, it must be said, somewhat crazy, can translate that into something useful as opposed to destructive.
