Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian in advanced talks with Juventus: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United star Matteo Darmian could be on his way to joining Juventus this month after a breakthrough in negotiations.

The Italian was signed by former boss Louis van Gaal but hasn’t been able to turn himself into a first-team regular.

Darmian’s versatility in being able to play anywhere across the back four has proven handy at times but he has been keen on moving on for more regular football.

United fans have been supportive of his move as it frees up space for more investment but also because the defender has been thoroughly professional despite his lack of minutes.

The full-back has never publicly complained and never threw a fit despite Ed Woodward’s reluctance to sell him last summer.

According to The Guardian, Matteo is close to transferring to Juventus on a £2.6m loan fee with an option to move permanently for £7.1m.

A loan would make sense for both parties as the Serie A side can see whether the experienced defender is worth investing in permanently or not.

At the same time the Red Devils can always opt to trigger his contract extension so it goes beyond the upcoming summer and they wouldn’t lose Darmian completely for free.
