Ander Herrera ‘hopeful’ of signing new contract at Manchester United – report

Ander Herrera is ‘hopeful’ of agreeing a new contract at Manchester United which would keep him at the club beyond this season, according to reports.

The Spaniard’s current deal expires in May and is free to speak with overseas clubs about a potential summer transfer.

Man United commenced negotiations over a new contract with Herrera in November. The midfielder is said to have shunned interest from former club Athletic Bilbao earlier this month.

And according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, sources close to Herrera have claimed they think he will remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

Herrera is settled in Cheshire with his partner, Isabel, and two-year-old daughter, and has demonstrated through both his performances and public statements an implicit understanding of what it means to play for United.

The arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides further reason for Herrera to stay put at Old Trafford.

United’s newfound interest in pressing high up the pitch has proved salutary on the whole but especially important for Herrera, whose performances under the changed leadership have delighted supporters.

You get the impression that whoever takes the reins at United next season – be it Solskjaer, Mauricio Pochettino or even somebody like Diego Simeone – will want to use Herrera on a regular basis.
