Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Nemanja Matic and Alexis Sanchez will play vs Everton

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Nemanja Matic and Alexis Sanchez have returned to full fitness and will feature at Everton on Sunday.

Matic picked up an injury against Watford last month, while Sanchez – whose last Premier League appearance came during the 3-2 win over Southampton – returned to action from the bench against Barcelona, forcing a fantastic save from Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

Solskjaer is likely to give several players a rest after the Nou Camp pummelling and ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Solskjaer confirmed that the pair would be involved at Goodison Park.

The predominance of Matic in midfield appears to be over, with Scott McTominay – along with the balanced presence of Fred – providing a more athletic version of midfield control than the Serbian, whose growing lack of mobility has become a target for opposition teams.

The first defeat to Wolves was a clear example of this notion in action. Even Watford, despite losing at Old Trafford, got a similar amount of joy going forward by targeting the 31-year-old. He will need to have a certain level of urgency about him if United are to avoid descending into panic against an Everton side which has beaten Chelsea and Arsenal at home this season.

Sanchez, meanwhile, must do whatever he can to convince supporters that he is not a merely expensive waste of space. And fast.
