Manchester United turn to Mike Maignan as David de Gea’s replacement: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have reportedly pinpointed Lille star Mike Maignan as David de Gea‘s potential replacement with concerns over his future continuing to grow.

The Spaniard has a year left on his contract with the club failing to have a breakthrough with negotiations over a new deal.

The goalkeeper has somehow been allowed to run down the years on his contract and it appears he’s unhappy with how other members of the team, who have less ability, are being paid more.

De Gea is widely regarded as amongst the best keepers in the world (if not the best) and losing him will surely be catastrophic to United’s ambitions.

Replacing him will be incredibly difficult as well but it seems the club have already found a player they want to do so with.

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils have made contact with Lille over Mike and they’ve been quoted a €35m fee, further complicating David’s future.

It’s not an incredibly amount of money to pay but one would think extending the former Atletico Madrid man’s contract would cost less.

Without knowing the details of what De Gea’s asking for, the actual request of a higher pay makes sense given it’s potentially his last big contract and that he is Manchester United’s best player.
