Manchester United star Angel Gomes has revealed just what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had his stars working on in his first pre-season at the club.
The Norwegian had his men playing some of the most exciting football Old Trafford has seen since Sir Alex Ferguson during his interim manager phase.
The magic soon wore off however and United ended their season in a whimper and so fans are curious to see whether he can recreate what he did before.
Gomes is one of numerous youngsters taken by Solskjaer for the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia and it’s fair to say he impressed in his first match.
With a summer under their belts the Red Devils’ stars should be far more accustomed to the former striker’s tactics and so hopefully they can embark on another winning run.
According to the club’s official website, Angel said: “Everything that you saw in the game is what we’ve been practising.
“We’ve been working hard, trying to get the front-foot press and trying to create and score as many goals as possible.
“We’ve got very quick, direct and pacy players and we tried to press, stay high, get everyone locked up. We did that so we could create more chances, win the ball up higher and try to dominate the game.”
It was perhaps Ole’s high tempo, intense tactics that saw Manchester United falter at the end of the season as they struggled with their fitness.
It was no surprise to see them fall apart after their historic comeback win vs PSG as that superb match was both mentally and physically draining.
Hopefully the players will now be fitter and more prepared to deal with his demands over the course of the whole season.
