From Italy: Mario Mandzukic wants to join Manchester United as part of Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku deal

Mario Mandzukic is keen on completing a move to Manchester United as part of the swap deal involving Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku, according to reports from Italy.

Man United and Juventus are close to striking a deal for the aforementioned pair, with the only obstacle remaining being Dybala agreeing personal terms.

According to various reports from Italy, the most notable being Gianluca di Marzio, there is a growing feeling that Mandzukic could be included as part of the deal.

Progress has been made in the Dybala and Lukaku deal, and the idea of Mandzukic joining United – something reportedly brought up by Juventus in negotiations – is also gathering pace.

The deal is not a straight swap. Dybala is valued around £20m higher than Lukaku, meaning United would be selling a player they don’t want in return for the Argentine to the tune of, well, about £20m.

When it comes to Mandzukic, then, United may well feel that adding another, say, £10 or £15m onto that original £20m is not bad business, especially if the player is keen for the deal to happen.

Signing the talismanic Croat, despite his age, would be a remarkably shrewd piece of business from United.
