Four Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targets Ed Woodward failed to sign this summer – report

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer list this summer included Paulo Dybala, Christian Eriksen, Jadon Sancho and Sean Longstaff, according to reports.

The club landed the signatures of British trio Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, but failed to add to their midfield.

As the transfer deadline approached, United came close to signing Paulo Dybala, only to pull out of the deal due to wages and image rights, and reportedly launched a late bid to sign Eriksen, whose contract at Tottenham Hotspur expires next year.

According to the Daily Express, Solskjaer handed Ed Wooward a list of seven players to go and sign, with the vice-chairman delivering just three.

Certainly, the least glamorous of this list – Longstaff, in case you were wondering – was a genuine target for Solskjaer, who would have been privately livid at the fact that United, having sold off Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini, failed to bring in a single midfielder.

As for Dybala and Eriksen, there did seem to be some late interest but the club, working under Solskjaer’s strict message to only sign players fully committed to the United project, pulled out after it became clear that neither player was especially keen.

When it comes to Sancho, well, next summer could be very interesting.
