Edwin van der Sar insists focus is on Ajax amidst Manchester United rumours

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United great Edwin van der Sar has responded to reports stating he could return to the club as a director of football.

The legendary goalkeeper is currently the CEO of Ajax whose recent successes have thrown his hat into the ring of possible candidates.

United themselves haven’t really provided any updates on the role but rumours emerged of Van der Sar potentially returning to Old Trafford.

However, the strong-willed Dutchman has insisted his focus is with his current side and so executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will have to wait to get his man if reports are true.

The Red Devils are keen on appointing the right man and so could potentially lean towards remaining patient rather than bringing the wrong person on board.

Some fans have actually begun questioning whether there’s the need for a director of football anymore given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successful trio of signings.

Harry Maguire, Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all settled into the Manchester United team quickly and have walked into the starting XI rather easily.

With Solskjaer having a clear vision of how he wants to shape his squad and there being no obvious signs of mistakes in the transfer market, the issue of a director of football should be revisited.
