Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial will miss Leicester City clash with injury

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial will both miss Saturday’s clash with Leicester City due to injury.

Pogba was seen limping after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton having picked up an ankle injury and missed the international break.

Martial, on the other hand, has been sidelined with a thigh problem since the defeat to Crystal Palace last month, but was seen at Carrington this week.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game, Solskjaer confirmed that the pair were definitely out, adding that Jesse Lingard (illness) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (back) were also major doubts.

“Well, the treatment room has been busy and still is,” he said.

“We don’t really know who is going to be available. Maybe Aaron, maybe Jesse and I think maybe that’s it from the ones that had to pull out [of the internationals], but I can’t promise those two will be available either.

”Pogba won’t be fit, no, unless he’s had a miraculous recovery overnight from yesterday to today or maybe from tonight to tomorrow. He’s not been ready to do 100 per cent training, no. We hope, as I’ve said, that more can be ready for West Ham next week and Paul and Anthony are in that category. I think they’ll be ready for then and I can’t say more than that really.”

Other absentees include Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and Diogo Dalot, leaving Solskjaer with, if not a crisis, a very considerable injury headache to contend with after just four games.

Beating Leicester was going to be difficult with a full-strength team. Now, with no Pogba or Martial to provide the final difference, United are going to have to dig deep, and some players are going to need to prove supporters wrong by stepping up against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
