Marcello Lippi: I would be happy to see Max Allegri at Manchester United

Former Juventus boss Marcello Lippi has claimed his friendship with Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson means he can say Max Allegri would be the best choice should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer depart.

The legendary Norwegian has been under fire of late as his side have failed to impress, particularly in the Premier League where they currently sit in 10th place.

United have been far from inspiring this season as Solskjaer approaches his one year anniversary in charge of the club unsure of his position as manager.

There have been some calls for his head but that’s largely remained on social media with most away and home fans still chanting his name.

Allegri has been linked with the job at Old Trafford for a few months now after it was claimed he was learning English as he gears up for a job in England.

According to the Daily Mail, Lippi said: “Allegri would be good everywhere and as a great admirer of the English club I would be happy to see him take over.

“Manchester United is the history of English football. There have been dark years but the club is fantastic, from the backroom to the players, everyone can say what it means to play at Old Trafford.

“First of all, I think Solskjaer was an exceptional striker and a good coach. For Allegri, I consider him an exemplary professional who has the style of Juventus in his blood.

“My deep friendship with (Sir Alex) Ferguson allows me to say that he would be the best choice for United.”

Though many still back Solskjaer, if Manchester United don’t climb up the table by Christmas time the board may decide it’s time to make a decision.

After all, they would be missing out on playing in Europe at all which would be even more embarrassing for a club the size of United.
