Manchester United could sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland for just £17m in January due to a release clause in the player’s contract, according to reports from Germany.
The Norwegian has shot to fame this season after accumulating a tally of 27 goals in 20 games, including seven in the Champions League.
Reports have strongly suggested that Man United are extremely keen on signing the Norwegian, who was given his debut at Molde by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
According to Bild, however, a clause in the player’s contract means that United could genuinely sign him for just £17m over the January transfer window.
This does not seem to be possible. There is no way that Haaland is allowed to leave for less than the price of Charlie Austin, or four Angel Di Marias.
However, it has been claimed that Haaland could leave to join RB Leipzig for just £25.7m due to the Red Bull franchise, but when it comes to United, you suspect that it becomes a different story.
Other reports have stated that United must shell out around £85m if they are to sign Haaland. It is probably worth taking both claims with a pinch of salt.
