Supporters stunned by Manchester United’s incredible win over Manchester City

Social media went into overdrive on Saturday afternoon as Manchester United pulled off one of the performances of the season to beat Manchester City at the Etihad.

In a spellbinding opening 30 minutes of crisp counter-attacking football, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side pulled the Premier League champions in all sorts of directions, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial giving the visitors a deserved 2-0 lead.

City hit back with venom in the second period but despite a late Nicolas Otamendi goal, United defended with glorious resilience and were good value for their victory.

Supporters were in a state of genuine shock and delight after what was a pulsating, brilliant game from United.

In this environment, when the pressure is on and there is space in behind, Solskjaer’s United can be absolutely lethal.

There remains plenty of work to be done to this team – plenty – but the basic spirit and thrust of this group of players, as seen at the Etihad, is enough to suggest that Solskkaer has something he can build from.

And beyond that, what a joy it is – one so rarely found these days – to find yourselves so utterly enraptured, so contorted in emotion, by a United victory in a massive game.
