Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was busy discussing Erling Haaland ahead of the club’s clash with PSG, admitting his pride in the player.
The young striker was and is believed to still be a target of the legendary Norwegian but ended up transferring to Borussia Dortmund instead.
There’s speculation Haaland has a release clause in his contract and that United will be looking to trigger it at the earliest opportunity.
Haaland and Solskjaer worked together during their time in Molde but unfortunately didn’t get to team up once again last January when interest first started.
The Red Devils ended up signing Bruno Fernandes and it’s safe to say that was a successful signing, though fans would’ve loved to see the Norwegian prospect at Old Trafford too.
According to the club’s official website, Solskjaer said: “He’ll beat it [Ole’s Champions League goalscoring record] and very quickly, that’s for sure.
“The boy has had a great start to his career. It was really good to work with him, to see the potential in him and some part of me feels proud of having a little bit of input into such a rise.
“I’m sure Erling will score loads of goals in the Champions League.”
With the transfer window around the corner, it’s likely speculation will grow once again but it would be a surprise if Manchester United make a move.
After all, the club seems to be struggling with cash and probably don’t have the money to purchase Haaland.
Even if they could, Dortmund won’t be fans of selling halfway through the season it what is a notoriously difficult market.
United have already briefed the media that this window will be one for offloading players so there are no expectations on new faces, let alone Haaland’s.
