Man United fans demand board invest in squad in January

The Manchester United board must now invest money in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad in the January transfer window, fans have said on social media.

The 6-2 thrashing of Leeds United yesterday elevated the Red Devils into third place in the Premier League and they will go second if they beat Leicester City on Saturday.

A title challenge that seemed impossible just a few weeks ago now seems realistic, but fans argue that the club’s owners must help Solskjaer’s push by making investments now rather than later.

‘The board needs to support Ole .. yes sometimes he is not good in tactics but he is improving.. buying a defender and a RW is a must,’ one fan said on Facebook.

‘We were on a great run at the end of last season as well, and the only thing the board had to do was back Ole with his priority signings to take that next step.

‘It’s the same case again, we are on a great run, but if we are seriously determined about challenging for titles, the board has to back Ole with at least one CDM and one CB,’ said another.

Other comments included:

‘The Team needs a mobile holding midfielder and a fast centre back. We all know that is preventing us from being more attacking, our build up play is slow, we always sit back because we fear our centre backs will get exposed on the counter attack!’

‘I hope this will give the board of directors something to think about and bolster this squad in the January transfer [window].’

In general, fans’ sentiment at the moment seems to be cautiously optimistic that a corner has been turned but the majority of question marks remain over the frailty of the defence.

‘What I have noticed is that we are a very good centre back away from making a statement this season. We really need to sign a CB this January,’ one fan said, summing up the views of the majority in the thread.
