Robert Lewandoffski to Manchester United

Robert Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United for the past six months with the Borussia Dortmund striker looking likely to leave the German side this summer.

And Ferguson recently admitted that United are indeed interest in signing Lewandowski but why would United need another striker in a squad that already possesses a phenomenal quartet? He showed why with an emphatic four goal haul against Real Madrid last night.

lewandowski1 8′ – Lewandowski steered a whipped cross in on the full stretch and made it look easy. It was a difficult chance to take but he took it with aplomb.  It is the trademark of a great striker to make a difficult chance look easy, something he did all night. lewandowski2

50′ – It isn’t hard to see why Lewandowski is held in such high regard from this goal. A sublime first touch is only bettered by the calm, controlled finish. In a crowded box, he found space and looked as cool as ice – another hallmark of any great striker.lewandowski3

55′ – Just when you think Lewandowski can’t play any better on the night, he goes and scores this. 3 touches is all it takes for him to control the ball,  turn into space away from two oncoming Madrid defenders and rifle the ball into the roof of the net.   It was a goal that embodied everything you want from a striker.lewandowski4

67′ – And to top it off, Lewandowski kept his cool and ferociously struck the ball home from the spot to make it four on the night for himself and Dortmund. No messing about – just laces through the ball.

Manchester United would be foolish not to be interested in him. As Ferguson always re-iterates, he always look for value and availability in the transfer market – look no further than Lewandowski. Players like him don’t come around very often.

Last season, I didn’t think we needed to sign a striker and van Persie came along. Nine months later, United were crowned Premier League champions. This season, I don’t think we need to sign a striker so we’ll do the same thing and sign another one.

And judging from his performance tonight on the biggest of stages, Ferguson will certainly be keeping further tabs on Lewandowski ahead of what is going to be another busy summer for United.
